Healing Power of Grapes Discover the healing power of grapes as Johanna Brandt reveals their ability to detoxify, rejuvenate, and address deep-seated health concerns naturally.

Grape fasting has long been known as an effective approach to detoxification, rejuvenation and natural healing. All it takes is eating 4 to 6 pounds of organic grapes a day and drinking a lot of pure water for further hydration. Considered the food of the gods, there are over 10,000 varieties of grapes grown worldwide. In France, many people go on annual grape fasts during harvest. Studies have shown a markedly lower incidence of cancer and diabetes in these areas.

Since 1556, books on grape cures have been published in various European languages. Specializing in grape fasts, a sanitarium in Yalta, Russia has been the home of many grape cures since the 19th century. Patients begin by eating one pound of organic grapes a day and work up to ten pounds per day. In the early 1900s, a group of wealthy French women, repenting from sins of excess, made news when they ambled into a grape resort, plucked grapes from the vines and began to fast. The women reported weight loss, rejuvenation, improved complexions, clearer skin and other antiaging effects.

In 1916, Johanna Brandt, a South African spy during the Boer War and author of The Grape Cure, claimed that a prolonged grape fast, along with organic foodstuffs and an unwavering measure of faith helped cure her from terminal stomach cancer. Such profound personal decisions are best reserved for times when there are no alternatives.

For a healing fast, eat fresh, organic red grapes, as well as the seeds. The National Library of Medicine states that proanthocyanidin and gallicesters, which are found only in grape seed extract, strengthen capillaries, enhance circulation, boost immunity, improve eyesight and bone health, prevent constipation, restore skin elasticity and softness, and block blood platelet and LDL oxidation. As with most natural cures that don’t directly make them money, the AMA and Big Pharma scorn grape cures as quackery, but offer no clinical data to the contrary.

Are grapes a cure all? When it comes to chronic disease, grape fasts have worked for a number of people, but not for others. It is well known that grapes, a so-called superfood, aid in detoxification and contribute to overall health. They enhance metabolism, cleanse the liver, remove uric acid, stimulate the kidneys, regulate the heartbeat and strengthen the heart muscle.

It appears that Johanna Brandt and the French women were really on to something. The National Library of Medicine hails resveratrol, a key ingredient in grapes, as a potential miracle drug. Current studies confirm that resveratrol expands blood vessels, reduces blood clotting, lowers cholesterol and combats aging. It is also a potent antioxidant, antimicrobial, antibacterial, antidiabetic, cardioprotective, neuroprotective and anti-inflammatory. Most importantly, resveratrol shows considerable promise as a cancer fighting agent. The downside is that it takes enormous quantities to gather the tiniest amounts. With moderate doses, resveratrol does not appear to have any debilitating or toxic side effects. I would not mix resveratrol with pharmaceutical drugs.

Healing Power of Grapes

Grapes are the most overly-sprayed fruit. If you are not sure they are organic, add two tablespoons of Baking Soda to a bowl of water and let the grapes soak for thirty minutes. Look for a faint powdery appearance on the grapes, indicating blooming. A grape bunch should have a few grapes either falling off or mushy. The stems should not be shriveled, but green-looking. Grapes keep for a week in the refrigerator.

Although grapes make a juicer sound like a miniature machine gun, they make excellent juice that fills the mouth with an explosion of delicious flavors. Make sure you swirl the juice in your mouth before swallowing. If you drink grape juice too quickly, there will not be enough saliva for proper digestion, which may cause a stomachache or stomach cramps. If you find grape juice too sweet, add lemon juice or mix with water. Frozen grapes retain most of their nutrients, as well as their antioxidants like resveratrol and make excellent treats.
