Albert Schweitzer, the celebrated physician, humanitarian and Noble Prize winner once proclaimed, “Man can hardly even recognize the devils of his own creation.” Today, devils come in many forms with some of the worst being the greedy chemical companies that are bombarding us with more toxic substances than in all previous generations combined. As a result, chemical cocktails now pervade our air, soil, water, processed foods, beverages, and our household products. Toxic chemicals have even been found in nursing mothers’ breast milk.
The ugly truth is that we are being systematically poisoned by profit hungry conglomerates, as well as by farmers who spray more than a billion pounds of pesticides, fungicides and herbicides on crops annually. Microplastics are now found in human blood, breast milk, placentas, in seafood, and in brain tissue. Toxic chemicals are sprayed indiscriminately along roadsides, and on state and federal lands. Planes discharge untold chemicals into the sky in an attempt to control weather. Lethal chemicals are utilized in warfare, to kill rodents, mosquitos, unwanted fish and crabgrass. Every living thing is at risk.
The human body boasts marvelous detoxification systems that can take a lot of abuse, but there are limits. Our primary detoxifiers, the liver and kidneys, can’t always eliminate the ever growing list of chemicals and may move some of them to other areas of the body for storage. Our fatty tissues are the primary recipients and chemicals can add up over the years until the body is finally overwhelmed. Since the brain is made up of 60% fat, headaches often act like alarm clocks letting us know that something is wrong. Human cells regenerate every seven years, but if we don’t detoxify properly the new cells simply inherit the toxic overload lodged in our old cells. This accumulation may continue unnoticed for years, but the eventual saturation will lead to problems.
Toxic chemicals are known to cause neurological, developmental, reproductive and mental problems, chronic pain, allergies, dizziness, vomiting, breathing difficulties, organ damage, weakened immune systems, birth defects, cancer, and even death. People often travel from doctor to doctor and never find the root cause of their suffering. As an example, a putrefied colon can cause depression and a person may waste valuable time and money visiting psychiatrists only to get misdiagnosed. The profiteers most frequent solution is to sell us various drugs to cover up the symptoms. A simple example is aspirin. The medication may take away the headache, but the root cause is not addressed.
Miss Carson, in her book Silent Spring, notes that there is no amendment to the Constitution that protects us from this chemical onslaught. We are all ticking time bombs as confirmed by the fact that, according to AARP, 9 out of 10 seniors over the age of 60 are taking one or more pharmaceutical drugs that promise to alleviate an ever growing list of ailments. An outrageous response from the National Agricultural Chemical Association declares, “Any harm that is caused by the use of pesticides is greatly overcompensated by the good they do.” The FDA anonymously added that articles that condemn chemicals, are obviously, perhaps also intentionally, one-sided. All I can add to such unconscionable statements is, “You’ve got to be kidding.”
I’m not claiming to replace sound medical advice, but I have thoroughly researched the longstanding history of fasting and detoxification, studied the positive conclusions that stem from over 200,000 clinical studies, and then found perfect parallels in age-old scriptures. Knowledge is king, but wisdom is the application of knowledge. Consequently, the most reassuring evidence came from applying the knowledge I acquired by personally putting fasting to the test. For well over 50 years, I have practiced fasts of 28, 21, 14, 10, 7 and 3 days. I once fasted for 40 days. I also do four 3-day cleanses a year, one for each season.
Remaining steadfast, I fast every Monday and have done so for decades. I look forward to the many fasting benefits to the point that my mind no longer even thinks about food on Mondays. I wouldn’t necessarily classify fasting as fun, but fasting takes you to where the fun is. Much of the fun and excitement stems from the fact that I’m super healthy, my mind is sharper now than at any time in my life, my weight remains under control, and my vitality hovers at peak efficiency. At my recent annual physical, my doctor told me that he could scarcely believe my test results. The reason is that I’m 76 years old, and contrary to the predominant decline found in the senior statistics he shared, my blood tests were not only normal and in the upper 10% of all age groups, but actually improved from last year.
My intention here is not to bang my own drum, but I want to make it clear that genuine help is available to anyone that can absorb the import of this message. If people would only fast and detoxify, a fair percentage of the sickness, mental illness and addictions in our society would simply disappear. You don’t have to buy the lies, and you don’t have to perish for lack of knowledge. Many great historical personalities would agree, people like Leonardo DaVinci, Michael Angelo, Ben Franklin, Joan of Arc, Thomas Edison, Jesus, Teresa of Avila, Plato, Pythagoras, Aristotle, Catherine of Sienna, Hippocrates, Mahatma Gandhi and Socrates to name a few. These personalities all understood the power of fasting and all accomplished the exemplary. On a lesser note, there are also valuable lessons to be learned by observing the animal kingdom. When sick or injured, an animal will instinctually lie down and fast until they get better.
No matter the state you find yourself in, it is never too late to start a detoxification lifestyle and get on the road to optimum health. By reducing your exposure to chemicals, you can strengthen organs, improve digestion, reduce inflammation, promote weight loss, increase energy, improve skin health, purify the blood, clear the mind, and promote overall well-being. To fully optimize the cleansing process, I suggest that you also eat organic foods, drink purified water, exercise, and avoid heavy intoxication.
